E Entertainment Online interviews Richard Pryor

Richard is currently working on his 3rd Pebbleman Project release which is due to be recorded and released towards the end of the year. We caught up with Richard backstage at the Table Mountain Blues Summit 2010 and asked him a few questions about the new album.

Mike Munn: So Rich tell us about the new album and what's actually gonna be new?

Rich: Well first up Mike it's going to be an instrumental and vocal album with copious amounts of guitar wankage...hehe...and gratuitous amounts of Bass and Drum violence. But I think more importantly it's going to be an effort of 4 musicians that I'm trying to bring together. As you know the last 2 pebbleman offerings have been me,me,me and myself but this time I want to have other musicians to work with.

Mike Munn: So tell us who are these guys?

Rich: Well first up we have Kevin Gibson on drums. Absolutely killer and I will stick my neck out and say one of, if not the best drummer in SA today... He can play Chick Corea in his sleep which often annoys the neighbours. This guy has taken 'Giant Steps' in the world of Jazz and is still looking to improve his Death Metal Technique and Approach.

Mike Munn: Ok that's nice to know hehe... And who else?

Rich: Well then we have Rob Stemmett on bass who works with me in Boulevard Blues. We've developed a really good on stage relationship over the last 10 years ...he lays down and I poke him in the ass with my Headstock.....hahaha

Mike Munn: hehehe Ja sounds like you need to have a sense of humour if you're going to play bass.

Rich: Hehe No Jokes aside ...This man can play and hopefully this project will take Rob right out of his zone and show everyone exactly how tall he stands.... He's in the groove at the moment.

Mike Munn: So you mentioned vocals...Are you going to be singing again or is there someone else in the pipeline?

Rich: Well I'm reserving my vocals for the shower right now..... I want a real pro singer on this album .... So we've recruited the effervescent and highly regarded Jesse Jordan. He is still heading up his own band "The Jesse Jordon Band" but it looks like he would love to give his Blues/Rock chops a dip in the ocean so I'm really happy to have him on board. He can really sing and I think will do these songs justice that I can only dream about.

Mike Munn: And what else can you tell me about the New Album...Has it got a name yet?

Rich: Yeah Mike. it's called 'New Blues' taken from the 13min instrumental title track. The album has been written and is nearing it's final arrangments. There are 5 vocal tracks and 6 instrumentals. Hopefully the Engines will be fully functional later this year and hope for a release soon afterwards.

Mike Munn: Well Rich Thanks a mil for chatting to us... I know you have a set to do in about 30mins so I'll let you go... Knock em Dead man.....See you at Splashy fen 2011.

Rich: Yeah cool....Thanks Mike...Cheers Boet
